What is HSN Code?

HSN stands for Harmonized System of Nomenclature. It was developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) efficiently categorizing over 5,000 products. It is accepted worldwide and has been in effect since 1988.

In India, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act has integrated the HSN code system to classify goods for taxation purposes. It ensures that GST invoices are consistent globally and helps in the systematic collection of data.
